Independence Day marks the end of British rule in 1957 and the establishment of a free, sovereign and independent Ghanaian nation. For this, every 6th March of the year brings ecstatic joy, happiness and pride to the good people of Ghana because the day presents opportunities to celebrate our past and present national heroes who played key roles in the struggle for independence and to consolidate our gains since independence.
This national event is celebrated across the length and breath of the country and Suame Municipal Assembly were not left out. The Municipal Assembly with the leadership of the MCE, Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate organised this year’s Independence Day celebration under the theme “Working together, bouncing back better” at Maakro M/A Primary School Park. This wonderful occasion was graced by Nananom of Suame Traditional Council, CEO’s of various Companies in the Municipality, Heads of civil society organisations, clergymen, reps from GES, reps from the Municipal Police command, reps from municipal fire command, reps from municipal immigration command, reps from municipal health directorate, headmasters and teachers of the various schools and students in general.
The 65th Independence Day celebration programme commenced with a prayer at 8:30 am after the arrival of the MCE and other dignitaries. After that, the MCE delivered a speech and a parade was organised which was led by the joint cadets of Pentecost and Akwasi Oppong Senior High Schools. After the parade, awards were presented to all participating schools.
The colourful event ended around 1:30 pm after the presentation of awards.
The New Suame Division Park in the Suame Municipality of Ashanti Region is to be transformed in to a synthetic pitch popularly called ‘AstroTurf ‘.
It was initiated by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and sponsored by the Ghana Gas Company.
The project is expected to be completed in six (6) months and being undertaken by a local contractor ‘’Best Limited’’
At the sod cutting ceremony on Sunday, 20th February, 2022, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas Company, Dr. Benjamin. K.D. Asante
Dr. Benjamin. K.D. Asante stressed their determination to continue to be supportive of national projects.
Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu (MP) said the project was dear to his heart to ensure the development of football and other sports-related disciplines.
He commended Ghana Gas Company for responding positively to the request made for the construction of the project.
According to Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, government would continue to be keen on developmental projects in the constituency as he mentioned the construction of roads among the lots.
In attendance was the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, former Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. John Osei Bobie Boahen, Traditional Authorities, Assembly Members, Clergies, Officials from Ghana Gas and Heads of Departments.
On Thursday, 3rd February, 2022, a Special meeting of the Suame Municipal Assembly was held to elect Honourable Kofi Boakye Ansah as the Presiding Member of the Suame Municipal Assembly.
The Office of the Municipal Electoral Commissioner, Mr Seth Mensah conducted the elections. At the end of poll, All the 25 members who were present voted Yes representing 100% of the vote cast.
His Lordship, Samuel Obeng Diawuo swore Hon. Kofi Boakye Ansah into office.
Hon. Kofi Boakye Ansah in his acceptance speech pledged to work with all stakeholders and counted their support for a successful tenure of office.
The meeting was well attended by the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Traditional authorities, Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Security Personnel, Party Faithfuls, Media Houses and Religious Leaders.
As part of remarks by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency, Majority Leader, Hon. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu called for unity and cooperation from all members geared towards improving the Municipality.
The President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a working visit to the Ashanti Region from Monday, 20th December, 2021 to Friday, 24th December, 2021 to inspect completed and ongoing projects in the region.
The President as part of his working tour commissioned the Suame Municipal Assembly’s Office Complex which was funded by the Office of the Administrator of District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
The construction of the building was part of Government’s effort to deepen decentralization as a tool for greater grassroot participation in the governance process.
The Commission was graced by Nananom, Political Party Faithfuls and Assembly Members.
The President cautioned the leadership of the Assembly to take maintenance culture seriously to ensure the durability of this huge investment for the good people of the municipality.
The Bremang Community was selected as a ’’Flagship community’’ during the rapid assessment period prior to the implementation of the GKMA project in the Suame Municipality by the field assessment team. According to the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA) Household Toilet Programme, all households in the flagship communities should have a toilet. To achieve this goal, there was the need to reach out to all community members with information on the project through massive public education and sensitization programmes .
It is for the above purpose that this community durbar was organized to send out a message to the general public and also to interact with them to answer some of the questions they had, concerning the project and to also encourage them to apply for a household toilet in their homes.

TIME : The programme Started and ended between the hours of 9am-12pm
THE DURBAR VENUE : It was organized on the Bremang funeral grounds, near the
Bremang Roman Catholic School, Dr. Donkor Fordjour.

In all, the durbar was attended by about Two Hundred and Eleven participants (211) out of
which One Hundred and Thirty One (139) were females and Seventy Two (72) males
ADDRESING THE PARTICIPANTS
Participants of the Durbar were given education on the GKMA-SWP by the two (2) main resource persons, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, in the person of Mr. David Oppong Darko and the Municipal Project Coordinator, Mr. Benjamin Busia Opoku. The two(2) resource persons took their time to explain the project to participants through the use of the local language ( Twi) to the best understanding of the community members.
SOME OF THE KEY AREAS THAT WERE ADDRESSED
The following were some of the key areas that the education was centered on.
There was an open forum, where participants were given the opportunity to ask any questions bordering them as far as the project is concerned.

This and many other concerns and contributions were raised by participants and same were addressed by the resource persons.
The 37th Farmers’ Day Celebration was held on 3rd December, 2021 at Anomangye M/A Basic School Park under the theme ’’Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating food systems in Ghana’’. At the occasion, gallant farmers were decorated, celebrated and awarded.
In all, ten (10) deserving farmers received varying awards from the following categories;
The Best District Farmer received a motor bike and assorted farm inputs. Items given to other awardees included TV sets, fridges, cutlasses, knapsack sprayers and other farm inputs.
The celebration was well attended by chiefs of the various traditional areas, Hon. Members of our Assembly, Staff of the Assembly, Political Party Representatives and other farm-based institutions.
The Municipal Chief Executive celebrated the farmers for their untiring efforts to ensure food security in the municipality. He further pledged the unflinching support of the Assembly in their business endeavours.
The District Best Farmer (Mr Festus Ahemah) for his part, exalted the Assembly for the award and promised on behalf of his colleagues to sustain the gains and to ensure that food is made available to the constituents at a cheaper cost.
World Toilet Day (WTD) is a day set aside internationally by the United Nations to create awareness of the value of toilets among the larger population in the sense that, lack of a safely managed toilet in one home can affect the health of the entire community. This day is to also draw the attention of Governments to adequately budget for sanitation and sanitation related services especially in the poorest and the most marginalized communities. This is also in line with the making of strong efforts to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 6 which is to ensure the attainment of Water and Sanitation For All By 2030.
It is for the above purpose that 19th November of every year has been internationally earmarked as the ’’World Toilet Day’’ and worth commemorating to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and help achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).
The Theme for the 2021 World Toilet Day was ’’ VALUING TOILETS ’’ with the full support from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
The Suame Municipal Assembly also commemorated the day with a float from Kronum through the principal streets of Bremang, Maakro, Suame Roundabout and then to the Jubilee Park, Kumasi to join the other GKMA Assemblies and dignitaries for the grand commemoration of the World Toilet Day celebration.

In all, the float was attended by about Two Hundred and Thirty participants ( 230) out of which One Hundred and Fifty Five (155) and Seventy Five (75) were females.
MAIN ACTIVITIES THAT WERE CARRIED OUT
The main activities that were carried out includes a float in the Suame Municipality which started from Kronum through to the principal streets of Bremang, Maakro and Suame where there was sensitization, registration and distribution of flyers to market women, passengers and other community members. After the float, all the participants converged at the frontage of the Suame Municipal Assembly and headed to the Jubilee Park for the main event of the day.
As part of the commemoration at the event grounds, there was a speech delivered by the Hon.Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecelia Abena Dapaah on the purpose of the commemoration the World Toilet Day. There was a presentation of a brand new GKMA pickup with registration number GN9853-21and Two (2) motorbikes also with the registration numbers M-21-AW 9409 and M-21-AW 9410.

On Wednesday, 29th September, 2021 a Special Meeting was convened at the Assembly Conference Hall to confirm Hon Maxwell Ofosu Boakye as the Municipal Chief Executive following his nomination by His Excellency, the President of the Republic.
At the end of polls, all the twenty-five (25) Assembly Members voted YES representing 100 per cent of the total vote cast in an election supervised by the Municipal Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Seth Mensah.
In his acceptance speech, Hon Maxwell Ofosu Boakye expressed his appreciation to the President for the confidence reposed in him and the overwhelming endorsement by Hon Members to lead shape the course of the Municipality. He pledged to work wholeheartedly with all stakeholders to realise the vision of the President for the Municipality.
The meeting was well attended by the former Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Prof. John Osei Bobie Boahin, Traditional Authorities, Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Security Personnel, Party Faithfuls, Media Houses, Religious Leaders and Representative from the Regional Coordinating Council.
Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye together with the other thirty-eighy (38) Chief Executives were later sworn into Office by the Hon. Regional Minister at the Yaa Asantewaa Building of the Regional Coordinating Council.
