SUAME MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REPORT ON THE MUNICIPAL LEAP FOCAL PERSONS MEETING.
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development and the Municipal LEAP Reassessment Team held a meeting with the three (3) Community LEAP Focal Persons within the municipality on Monday 13th January, 2025 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.
The purpose of the meeting was to sensitize the focal persons on the upcoming LEAP Reassessment programme. During the meeting, the focal persons were sensitized on the LEAP programme with respect to the category of people who qualify to be on the programme, the need for the reassessment among others.
The Municipal Social Welfare Officer explained to the participants that the objectives of the reassessment are to;
- Update the LEAP beneficiary register to ensure that cash grants go to the eligible households and to respond to changes in poverty levels, household composition and programme requirement.
- Identify households that will no longer be eligible for LEAP and link them to other complementary services.
- Enhance the Programme’s transparency, consistency, and fairness.
He indicated that since the inception of the LEAP programme in 2008, there has not been a major reassessment of beneficiaries hence the need to reassess them in order to reduce the incidence of inclusion and exclusion errors.
Focal persons were very happy about the upcoming programme and pledged to support it in order to make it a success.
