PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS PHASE 2.0 SENSITIZATION DURBUR BY DEPARMENT OF AGRICULTURE (SUAME MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY)
On August 28th 2023, the President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, launched the Second Phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs programmed dubbed “Planting for Food and Jobs Phase 2.0 (PFJ 2.0)” in Tamale. This phase aims to transition from a Direct Input Subsidy to a Direct Credit System linked to structured market arrangement.
The Planting for Food and Jobs Phase (II) (PFJ 2.0) program has clear strategic objectives and interventions for Agriculture to deliver Food Security and Resilience within Five (5) years.
The Suame Municipal Assembly through its Department of Agriculture organized a Durbar on the Sensitization of Planting for Food and Jobs Phase 2.0 on 2nd May, 2024 at the Conference Room of the Assembly.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Abass Mohammed inform the participants the purpose of the gathering.
He stated that, the program was to ensure Food Security and listed the commodities under the program which are Cereals and Legumes (Maize, Rice, sorghum, Soybean), Vegetables (Tomato, Pepper, Onion), Roots and Tuber and Plantain (Cassava, Yam, Plantain). He further emphasized about the benefits of joining the program which include but not limited to Access to Credit, Barrier Entry, Access to quality Inputs, Access to Farm Services, Food security and Resilience, Unsustainable Subsidy and Unstructured Market.
CONCEPT OF THE PROGRAM
Miss Bettilyna Opoku Agyemang explained the concept of the program. She highlighted the key actors as Aggregators, Financial Institutions, Input Suppliers, Farmers, Service providers (AMSECS and Extension Agents), Warehouse Infrastructure and Collateral Managers (WICMs), Off Takers and Ancillary Players/Actors. She also made known how actors can access the program.
The presentation was followed by series of questions from participants who were very interested in the program which were answered by Director and Extension officer.
Overall, the program was a major success as most farmers in the Municipal who had vast lands in other Districts were intrigued about the program.
