69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY ANNIVERSARY HELD ON FRIDAY, 6TH MARCH, 2026 AT THE CONFERENCE HALL OF SUAME MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY, OLD SUAME.
The Suame Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Suame Municipal Education Directorate organized the 69th Independence Anniversary Celebration at the Conference Hall of the Suame Municipal Assembly, on Friday, 6th March, 2026 on the theme “building prosperity, restoring hope”.
The occasion was graced by Nananom, Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Department and Unit Heads of Suame Municipal Assembly, Staff of the Municipal Education Directorate, Religious Leaders, Leadership of the Political Parties, Security Personnel, Headteachers and Pupils from six (6) selected Schools in the Municipality. Out of these six (6) schools, four (4) selected schools namely Holy Rosary R/C JHS, Breman M/A Model JHS, St. John of the Cross R/C JHS and Anomangye Basic JHS qualified for the finals of the debate competition.

Nana Adu Ansere Bekoe II, Suame Dikro served as the chairman for the occasion.
The keynote address delivered by the Municipal Coordinating Director on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Frank Owusu Ansah emphasized government no fee stress policy, free tertiary education policy for persons living with disabilities (PWDs) among other educational policies to improve the lives of school pupils in the country.

Also, the keynote address touched on the Assembly’s commitment in constructing 6 Units and 2 Units classroom block with 11- seater toilet facility for Kwapra Primary and Kindergarten school at Kwapra to address the issue of school children travelling on a longer distance to attend school since there is no public school within the area.
One major activity carried out during the celebration was a debate competition aimed at promoting critical thinking, public speaking and ensuring civic responsibility among students on topical issues relating to national development. The topic for the debate was “building prosperity and restoring hope is the sole responsibility of the state” which was keenly contested between Holy Rosary R/C JHS and Breman M/A Model JHS and a later contest between St. John of the Cross R/C JHS and Anomangye Basic JHS.
At the end of the debate competition, Anomangye Basic JHS emerged as the overall winner of the debate competition and Holy Rosary R/C JHS, St. John of the Cross R/C JHS and Breman M/A Model JHS took the 1st runner-up position, 2nd runner position and 4th place respectively.
Cash awards were presented to the participating schools.

The celebration was interspersed by display of cultural troupes showcasing rich Ghanaian traditions through dance and choir music by Andrews Adventist Basic as well as a poetry recital by Maakro JHS.

The 69th Independence Day Celebration in the Suame Municipality was successfully organized and provided an excellent platform for students to demonstrate their debating and analytical skills on issues of national importance. The contest also strengthened collaboration between the Suame Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Education Directorate in promoting educational and intellectual development among students. The Assembly remains committed to improving future celebrations for greater community involvement and national development.
